Do you remember when you were at school and in the classes of history you had to study a lot about the civil war caused by racism and slavery? Do you also remember when you studied the story of a worthy man called Martin Luther King? Maybe, at this moment you are laughing while you remember all this, but stop laughing for a minute and think if racism really disappeared. Sadly, racism is still a problem in society even when people say that it is not true.
Racism is referred to beliefs, practices and organizations which discriminate people based on their race or color; it is a subjugation system. It is defined also as the idea that persons of different ethnic groups have different values, and that due to it, there is a "hierarchical scale". Racism is a word generally used by the dominant group of a society.
Most of the problems circumscribed to racism are due to the fact that a big part of the society deals with xenophobia, defined as fear to the foreign people. This is the origin of racism. People who are part of a different race (black people, chinese people or others) that is not the dominant group are the ones that suffer due to the racism. Sometimes they suffer because nobody wants to give them a job just because their difference in color, language or religion. Racism is a crime; if you or someone that you know has suffered due to the racism of other persons, contact an attorney and ask him/her about the possibilities to claim against this situation.
