Nowadays, almost all the cars that you see on the US roads are equipped with airbags to protect the person who is driving the car and the person who goes beside the driver. Airbags were created based on average of weight and height of several people who helped to create this security measure.
However, a recent study conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration showed that in several crashes the strength of the explosive opening of the bag has caused several damages to the people who received the impact directly. Almost 60% of the people injured in those cases were kids and people of short height; some even died in the crash.
When the airbag hurts you instead of protecting you, it may cause several injuries to your back or your neck. Also, some reports showed that if a person is smacked by the airbag could suffer grave injuries to the eyes; some of those injuries may be bruises of the eye socket (orbital contusion), bleeding in the hyphema (eyeball), and, in extreme cases, a really hard hit against the airbag could cause blindness. Also, a hard impact against the airbag may cause broken bones especially in your neck and back; this situation could produce that somebody has to stay on a wheelchair for ever.
If you or someone that you know have suffered a grave damage due to an airbag, consult a lawyer about the possibilities of claiming and be compensated in a court case for the injuries caused.
