Do you remember when you rode bikes with your friends or when you played soccer, baseball, basketball or other sports and you always got a bruise on your skin? Of course you remember it! At this moment you are probably laughing while you remember but, did you know that bruises could be a really serious problem? A bruise is also named contusion or ecchymosis and they appear when a part of the body is struck and the fibers of the muscles and connected tissues under the skin are compressed but the skin does not smash.
When this happens the blood from the broke capillaries (little vessels) gets away by leaking underneath the skin. When this occurs the blood has no place to go so it remains trapped causing a red or purple blot that hurts with contact. When you get a bruise you might think: how long is it going to last? The answer is: about two weeks; in these two weeks you will see different changes in the color and size of the bruise. Everybody is exposed to get a bruise; children and old people even more.
Sometimes you can get a bruise for an accident (bumping or banging); but they can also be caused by someone else. For example: in a car smash battery, physical abuse and other cases are related to a corporal damage.
