Dehydration is when the body does not have enough water and essential fluids required for its proper functioning. It may be caused when the body has lost many fluids by factors like diarrhea, vomiting, when the person does not drink an adequate amount of water, or by excessive sweating. The people most exposed to suffer dehydration are children because their bodies are smaller and their weight is less than an adult and people in the elderly age (especially those who are sick) are also very exposed.
This illness can be divided into mild, moderate and grave dehydration. This depends on the amount of fluids lost and are not replenished. Usually people think that dehydration is not a grave problem, but when severe dehydration appears it can be very dangerous and may even cause death. The first thing that dehydrated people must to do to control this illness is to re-establish the adequate balance of water in the body. Some symptoms that can indicate that a person is suffering from dehydration are unusual thirst, excessive sweating, feeling dizzy, faints, having a dry mouth and producing less urine.
There are several ways to prevent dehydration, but the easiest way is to drink enough water, especially in hot and windy days and eating fruits is also a good alternative. These recommendations are for everyone but in particular for those people who like to practice sports. However, the majority of people who suffer dehydration are those who are in nursery homes. There are a lot of reports of different cases of abuse in these places and dehydration is no exception in these abuses. If you or someone that you know has suffered from dehydration in a nursery home or any other place, contact your lawyer and ask him/her about the possibilities to be awarded in a possible court case.
