Primary Pulmonary Hypertension (PPH) is a lung disorder that is usually occasioned by a drug called Fen Phen (fenfluramine and phentermine). This disease produces far above normal level rises of blood pressure in the pulmonary artery. According to the American Heart Association (AHA) there are 500 to 100 new cases every year; an estimated of 6 to 7 million of Americans had taken this weight loss drugs.
These drugs were prescribed in hospitals and centers to help people to lose weight in the 70's and in the 90's but when the doctors saw the secondary effects that it produces they pulled them off from shelves on September 15. A study made by the Clinic Mayo showed that 30% percent of the people studied used Fen Phen and then developed the illness. The average life expectancy of someone that suffers this is three years or less. Some of the symptoms are: weakness, fatigue, shortness of breath, chest pain, dizzy spells and fainting. There are several medical tests that can determine if someone has this sickness.
